Weekly Seva at Shephard’s Gate Homeless Shelter, Livermore CA

With Amma’s loving grace, we are doing seva activities at this shelter since December 2015. We take fresh fruits and vegetables and needed paper products for daily use, such as toilet paper. This seva activity has been ongoing on a weekly basis. VCOI members take 10 pounds of fresh fruit and 10 pounds of fresh vegetable every Tuesday to the homeless shelter along with some other items as need arises.

Shepherd’s Gate has earned a reputation for rebuilding shattered lives. Since 1984, they have provided housing to over 9,000 battered and homeless women and children. They provide a safe haven for women and their children who are homeless because of abusive relationships, addictions, loss of financial support and other factors. All services are provided to anyone regardless of race, age, religion, color, creed, national origin, disability, marital status, or veteran status.

The campus is designed with women and children in mind from women who have been living in their cars, to children who have never had an actual bed to sleep in. The residence halls are built to accommodate mothers and their children, so families can stay together as they recover. This campus cares for up to 70 women and children at a time (Shepherd’s Gate website).
